A Birdwatching Guide to France South of the Loire Including Corsica
One of the largest countries in Europe, the climate of France ranges from Mediterranean to Alpine, wet windy Atlantic to cold Continental. Within all these very different climatic regions, there are also a great variety of habitats; wetlands, rivers, lakes, coastal lagoons, deciduous and coniferous forests, lowland and mountain heaths, urban areas and agricultural land.
For the purpose of the book, the area is divided into 7 regions, each further sub-divided where necessary (the Atlantic Coast, the Pyrenees, the Mediterranean Coast, Corsica, the Alps, and the Centre). Descriptions of each region open with a sketch map identifying numbered birding areas and provide detailed coverage of the areas with clear directions accompanied by colour photographs. A detailed checklist of birds for the area is provided with English, French and scientific names, as well as additonal checklists for mammals, amphibians and reptiles, and butterflies.
